School Cancelled

Students braving the storm and giving up on their umbrellas.  The speed bumps created lakes  with a river flowing over them later.
There is a large storm in India and we got whipped here too.  At 8:15 I learned that school was cancelled.  It was a nasty day, no water, no power.  We shivered inside and played cards.  At about 3 pm it cleared up.  Dave, Akari and I went for a beautiful hike to Tsimakha, a small village along the hillside about 30 minutes away. We then walked down past the dzong and had dinner in Tshimisham, the neighbouring village that is on the highway. Photos look great because they were taken by Dave on his great little camera.

Clearing skies

Tsimilakha Lower Secondary School - the starting point of our walk

A house on our route, the boy has just emerged from the toilet - in the forest

Our destination - the Lakhang (temple)

A house in the village, some of my students live here

Kinley Dorji

My first attempt at Khuru - large, heavy darts - the dart is just visible in the upper right corner

Looking back at the sun setting on the village

In 3 months all of these scenes will seem like a dream.  Tonight walking home there was a group of maroon clad monks on the road ahead of us.  Discovering a tiny village was great, but only in Bhutan will I ever have a similar experience.
